An Interpretation on Special Education through VariousApproaches

    Abstract

    This paper mentioned that the necessity of qualitative development in South Korea’s special education, and noted that theoretical approaches on special education could be one of qualitative aspects in South Korea’s special education. It tried to present how to interpret South Korea’s special education through various approaches. It tried to divide major approaches on South Korea’s special education as two approaches, traditional approaches and recent approaches. It mentioned that traditional approaches could include a medical approach assuming students with disabilities as the subjects of pathological treatment. This paper mentioned that recent approaches on special education could include a social approach focusing on social environments surrounding people with disabilities. This paper showed how a medical approach and a social approach could consider special education and students with disabilities.
